Resistance: Fall of man is the epic WWII shooter that never happened. Everything you know about WWII, throw it out the window, and insert this game. PS3 could not have asked for more in a launch title that offers up as much as it dishes out. Online and offline this produces the next gen FPS we all came to expect out of Sony's companion Insomniac. Stepping outside the world of Ratchet and Clank, Insomniac branches out and gives every FPS fan exactly what they want. Smarter enemies, sleek weapons, gorgeous surroundings and much, much more.

We'll be taking a look at both the offline and online play throughout the review. Lets start with offline. Resistance follows Nathan Hale an American recruit in the middle of Europe fighting through to not only survive but to help restore the world by killing "The Chimeran" one by one. The gun totting yank travels through beautifully designed city, country side and sewer subway systems facing the occasional boss and mainly looking to stop the chimeran in any way possible.

Not only by foot, Hale also manages to squash some Chimeran butt in scattered vehicles such as tanks, army vehicles and arachnid style mechs. Each level introduces you to new and fun weapons to use along the way.  This includes my favorite the chimeran auger; a weapon designed to shoot through walls and gives the ability to create a energy wall to hide behind.

Gameplay is very consistent and has very little down times. Insomniac did a great job making sure you never had to back track or return to areas already visited. All the levels gave you a straight forward approach but don't you dare think its going to be a walk in the park; this game is difficult.  Insomniac also managed to throw occasional big surprises which I won’t go into, and let you experience them yourself.

Once you complete the single player Insomniac gives you a reason to play it again offering bonuses and extra weapons for your amusement. I don't know about you but I love playing through a game again and again and having extras for doing it is a bonus.

The online play (where all the magic is) is beautiful. Although PS3 could offer a better way to connect online, Resistance made it fast, easy and exciting. There are many different scenario’s including Deathmatch, Capture the flag and much more. They also have achievement like awards for each scenario such as 30 melee kills, kill a 100 with each weapon and so on. The games I have played had no lag, making for more fun and visceral experience.

A staggering 40 persons can play on certain maps at the same time, WOW! Voice chat and text chat is available, friends list, clans and messages. With insomniac continually patching and updating you'll be in for more fun each time.

Resistance is a great launch title for the PS3.  And it opens up the next gateway for next gen systems giving you all you have ever needed in a first person shooter. Insomniac took what we all wanted in PS2 shooters and gave it to us in next gen appeal.

I can't wait for more installments in this game; hopefully, but then again it is Sony. I am pretty sure we'll be seeing a Resistance 3 by the end of the systems life.
