Guitar Hero World Tour Preview
Guitar Hero IV is set for release soon, and there are some thing you should definitely know about it before you buy. And remember to post a comment at the bottom as this is Andrew Walker's first article for the site.

The day was May 22'nd, 2008 when music lovers, gaming enthusiasts and just plain rockers rejoiced from the comfort of their own homes when Activision announced their latest installment in the Guitar Hero’s series, Guitar Hero World Tour.

Right out of the announcement Activision per told in this new Guitar Hero experience that we would be jamming with much more than just guitars. Following the direction of Harmonix and EA’s much beloved Rock Band, Activision has said Guitar Hero World Tour will feature drum and microphone peripherals as well. Now when I heard this the little rocker inside me (me being a GH fanatic) was ecstatic and I was thrilled... at first.

But after the initial joy-filled moment and more details were released, my mind started to wonder off. With the use of new “improved” wireless instruments that was said to be included, a few questions came to my mind. For one, the already owned peripherals I have for Rock Band, will they not even be compatible then? Speculations are almost certainly aiming toward that. And two, where do I have room for yet another set of plastic fake instruments? I for one do not see the need for two drum sets, two microphones and so forth and I can’t be alone on that so non compatibility can leave a huge mark on the sales for this one in my opinion. Activision you really need to think about that one. Finally with the added weight to the package, you can only expect it will have higher retail pricing right? Right, an estimated price of $189.99 for the whole bundle has surfaced but nothing has been confirmed. Gaming is getting quite expensive these days indeed.

Now if you are on the other end being one who never traveled to the local game shop and bought Rock Band but have always been interested, this may be an interesting point of time to start and this may be the game to start it. This can even be said to the Guitar Hero veterans like myself and who don’t mind the extra bulk in their closet.

I mean the question is how can Guitar Hero IV not just be a replica Rock Band but truly make it a new experience (what more can be offered) to make it the bigger, badder boy here then just a shiny new set of instruments? For starters it has been said to have the biggest selection of on-disc music with all master tracks (some bands confirmed: Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park and Sublime) while others have been leaked: Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pantera, Bullet for My Valentine, Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, System of a Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Interpol, Muse, and much, much more.

Also the game is to feature a “Battle of the Bands” mode which will consist of eight, yes eight players (two bands) duking it out and also having an extensive online Band Career mode. To keep going, a total and complete in-depth customization of pretty much everything revolving your band (from your character, to your guitar, to even your album cover - all in which you will be able to showoff online).

And lastly but most impressive in my eyes is the addition of an innovative music studio which will let players compose, record, edit and share their own created music masterpieces! The song creator tool seems so full in detail yet simple enough for “new users” to even use. You can simply open the music studio and a wizard will guide you through hundreds of baselines and drumbeats to choose from. You just pick what you want (the game is to have much more then the just expected rock/metal tones) and once loaded you just play as you go and it will do the rest (live recording here people).

An effects processor is hidden in there too therefore you can make your guitar sound almost like anything. The possibilities are endless! Then after creating your own tune, you can upload them onto “GH Tunes” which is the codename for a marketplace of where you will be sharing and downloading those fresh beats from.

So already it seems like a worthy competitor of Rock Band and we don’t even have the full story for this game yet! With so much to offer gamers and rhythm-goers and appealing to not only guitar players now but offering drummers and singers alike to join in on the fun (and even composers now too!). Guitar Hero World Tour is proving as something to keep your eye on.
