Sonic Unleashed Preview
Sonic's back and better than ever. Keep your eyes peeled for this game, as it hopes to break the mold for the franchise. Check out this preview and post a comment at the bottom by clicking the link "comments".

Its fast, it’s furious, it’s, oh wait, Sonic?  Yes it’s true.  This new Sonic the Hedgehog game is set to break the 10 year losing streak it has brought to consoles which classic yet fresh next generation elements and incredible speeds.  But with Sega, you never know.

A recent trailer showed off the 360 version that was uploaded onto YouTube.  This trailer is incredible.  Blistering speeds meld with time sensitive, god of war style, button combinations and many other new and reinvented Sonic elements.

If you want to talk about speeds, check out the camera.  It quickly jolts you around corners, pulls back, and switches to 2D on the fly.  It felt more like the old Genesis version of the game in terms of speed for its time.  It’s a roller coaster.  This game runs on the “Hedgehog” engine that has been in production for the past three years.  It seems like they have taken a step back and started from scratch.  But as for the gameplay, try to imagine Burnout Revenge with a Sonic twist. Now add beautiful vistas and cityscapes, full of color and style, great controls (from what we’ve seen), and a god like drive to break the medium.

If you are interested in seeing this trailer, search it on YouTube.  And believe me it’s worth the jump.

This trailer looks very promising but the real question is: will Sonic break the losing streak?  Only time will tell.  I for one agree with Kotaku’s comment that stated: “Part of me wants to give myself over to the excitement, while the other part is afraid. Afraid they'll find some way to balls this up.”  But let’s hope not.

Sonic needs this as a franchise and Sega needs this as a company.  They can’t just package unfinished garbage, slap a Sonic name on it, and wait for the money to roll in; maybe in the Genesis days, but not now.
Sega’s drought all started with the Sega Saturn and then fell downhill.  They couldn’t afford to stay in the hardware market so they decided to go strictly software.  And they couldn’t even do that right.  Seeing as Sonic the Hedgehog for 360/PS3 was a bomb, and Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Riders both left much more to be desired.  It has never been as polished as the old 2D Sonics.  But this new one might have the kick Sonic needs.

But screen shots and the odd video clip here and there give me hope.  Sonic remains on of my fondest video game memories growing up and I just hope this fast, furious ride, isn’t over yet.
